ABOUT SB 726

SB 726 is the only legislation that will deliver doctors now to Medically Underserved Areas throughout California - at no cost to California taxpayers. California’s “physician hiring ban” is no longer relevant - AMA recognizes this and in 45 other states direct physician hiring is a legal and common practice.

As long as hospitals and clinics in rural and low-income communities are prohibited by California law from hiring the doctors they need, California’s doctor shortages - already the worst in the nation - will get much worse.

All Californians deserve access to doctors. The Medical Board of California, AARP, Dolores Huerta Foundation, JERICHO, Association of Rural Counties and the long list of medical, labor, civil rights and faith-based groups listed here are calling for an end to the “physician hiring ban” now. They support SB 726 and bringing doctors to all Californians.
